Lee Jun-seok, chairman of the New Reform Party, gives up his bid for the next party chairmanship... ”I will not run at the party convention” = South Korea
Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the New Reform Party, who was elected in the Hwaseong-eul district of Gyeonggi Province in the April 10 general election, has declared that he will not run for the next party leader position.
On the 13th, Lee sent an email to party members saying, "I will not run at the upcoming party convention. I will focus on finding new talent and formulating an election strategy in preparation for the upcoming local elections.
The New Reform Party plans to hold a party convention next month before the 22nd National Assembly opens to select its leadership.
The party will hold a convention to appoint the next leadership. This is the first party convention since the formation of the party, which unites various political factions that represent Korea's hopes, principles, common sense, and new choices.
"This is a party conference where we should bring out more diversity of opinions than ever before," he said. "The process of preparing for the local elections, which are just two years away, will be as tough as the past few months we have been through.
I will do everything I can to achieve results in that field,” he said. Regarding the results of the general election, in which the party secured one seat in the local district and two seats in the proportional representation district, Lee said, “I will do everything I can to achieve results in that field.”
"In the span of about a month, despite many twists and turns, we have produced all the candidates who won in the local districts and the proportional representation system, and we have achieved the desired results," he said.
I regret that all of this was due to my not being able to work harder as party leader in party affairs and election support. The courage and achievements of the party members who contributed to the party in this election are the hallmarks of the Reform Party.
"I will never forget this while history passes," said Lee. "On behalf of the New Reform Party, I would like to express my gratitude to the candidates and party members who traveled around the country early and made great efforts to hold the election."
"We will decide on a date for the speech and make it possible for the regional organization to be reorganized."
