<Interview> ”Queen of Tears” director Jang Yong-woo, ”I love Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Woo-won”... ”I didn't think it would go this well”

Director Jang Yong-woo of TvN's Saturday-Sunday TV series "Queen of Tears" delivered a heartfelt final greeting to the viewers who sent him an explosive cheer.
Along with praising the actors who have worked together on the series, she also shared her directing secrets and behind-the-scenes information on tvN's "Queen of Tears."
Director Jang said, "I came to respect and love actors Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Woo from the bottom of my heart while working on this production," and added, "In terms of acting, I was able to work closely with both of them.
He continued, "They were really great actors, even in terms of their attitude towards other actors and staff and their humanity," and added, "Especially Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Woo.
When director Chang was first offered the film, he said he liked the fact that it was about a family, which is rare these days, and said, "I think it's a story that takes time and records.

How do you feel about finishing on such a high note? I'm curious to know if you're feeling the popularity.
Thanks to the writer's interesting and meaningful script and the actors' excellent performances, it was a happy set where we trusted and relied on each other.
I think the chemistry between the writer, director, and actors was really good. The process of everyone coming together, loving the work, and putting their heart and soul into it was very meaningful to me.
It was a drama that I was deeply touched by. Through this drama, I have come to respect the screenwriters and actors even more. I am also truly grateful to the viewers who love the TV series.
During the broadcast, I was busy with work on the latter half of the show, so I didn't really get to experience how popular it was, but I heard from people around me that it was fun.
Q: Why do you think tvN's "Queen of Tears" has been so popular? I'm also curious if you expected this kind of reaction.
- When I was first proposed this work, I liked the fact that it was a "family story," which is rare these days, and the screenwriter did a great job of writing meaningful themes like time and memory into the script.
I thought it would be fun to shoot the film. I also got to co-direct with Kim Hee-won, who I trust and rely on the most, and each and every one of the actors was really good, so at least
To be honest, I didn't expect it to turn out this well.

Q: What was a particularly memorable reaction from viewers?
When I work on a project, I try to focus on the details and emotions as much as possible.
N: While I was doing "Queen of Tears," I was most surprised by how the viewers were able to pick up on all of these details and emotions and read them out loud.
Not only the intention of the director, but also the actors' very delicate emotional acting and the staff's hard work in preparing
I am truly grateful that you found even the smallest details and small objects entertaining. Q. TvN's "Queen of Tears" received a lot of praise for its beautiful visuals and backgrounds that maximized the emotions of the characters.
I wonder if there is a secret directorial technique that maximizes the emotional lines of the characters, especially the romance between Baek Hong (Baek Hyun Woo and Hong Hae In) and his wife.
It's not that I have any special secrets to directing, but since a married couple is different from a couple in a relationship, I wanted to include the relationship, distance, and warmth between them, and I tried to express different things depending on the situation and emotion.

In terms of acting, both actors were perfect, and the way they treated the other actors and staff and their humanity were also really great.
In particular, the two of them are very different from each other, but they showed chemistry like a real married couple, relying on and complementing each other.
When someone is in a difficult situation, the way they wait and listen to them is heartwarming and moving.
Q. I'm curious as to what kind of TV series "Queen of Tears" left for you as a director, and what kind of TV series do you want viewers to remember it as?
As I prepared and filmed for a year, I was able to once again feel the importance of my family and the people I care about, and I hope that viewers will share this warmth as well.
