Japanese and South Korean business leaders look forward to a ”new partnership declaration” from both governments
Japanese and South Korean business leaders said, "Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea, so we look forward to a new partnership declaration from the two governments."
On the 15th, on the final day of the 56th Japan-Korea Business Conference held in Tokyo, the Japan-Korea Economic Association and the Korea-Japan Economic Association announced that the above-mentioned contents were included in the meeting.
The two countries adopted and announced a joint statement, stating, "As next year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and South Korea, we will work together to further develop our cooperative relationship."
Kim Yoon, chairman of the Korea-Japan Economic Association and head of the South Korean delegation, said at a press conference after the joint statement was released, "We hope to declare a new partnership for the next generation."
"At this meeting, we shared ideas on what the business leaders of both countries should do to deliver a better future to the next generation," he said. "To step up the atmosphere of Korea-Japan cooperation in the next generation of business leaders,
"We will identify areas where we can complement each other and begin activities," he said. Meanwhile, the two associations teased the establishment of a new organization that will enable joint research. Chairman Kim said, "The secretariats of both associations will set up committees.
"Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Korea and Japan, so we need to have the two secretariats study the matter and come up with a concrete implementation plan over the next year," he said.
The two associations also stated, "It is important to further increase mutual interest and favorability," and "To this end, Japanese and Korean business people will promote various types of exchanges, including between the next generation, cultures, and regions."
"We will actively support and contribute to the development of the semiconductor industry," said Mikio Sasaki, chairman of the Japan-Korea Economic Association. "In the case of semiconductors, Japan provides materials, parts, and precision equipment, and Korea provides semiconductors.
"Samsung Electronics is taking the lead in this field," he said, adding, "The Japanese government will provide support to Samsung Electronics, which has expanded into Yokohama. We need to strengthen cooperation in this way."
Next year's conference is scheduled to be held in Seoul, South Korea.
