"Since the beginning of this year, the National Railway Group has strengthened its passenger transport system in response to the sustained recovery of the domestic economy and increased travel volume," an official from the group's passenger transport department explained.
From January to April, an average of 10,483 trains were operated per day on railways nationwide, up 13.8% from the same period last year.
The government also made use of the new hub to increase the number of trains to key areas and popular areas in a timely manner. It also focused on passenger transportation across the border.
The number of passengers using the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Railroad, which connects Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, increased by 106.3% year-on-year to 8,866,000.
The number of passengers using the China-Laos railway connecting the two cities was 79,000. The official said, "The railway sector will focus on developing a service economy and society in the future. We will closely monitor the movements of railway passengers."
"We will continue to closely monitor the situation to optimize train operations, improve service quality, and strive to provide a better experience for as many passengers as possible."
