Following reports that VI (former BIGBANG), who had served his sentence after being convicted of sexual crimes, would be opening a club in Hong Kong, the Hong Kong government revealed that he would not be applying for a visa.
On the 24th (today), Hong Kong media reported that a Hong Kong government spokesperson did not mention VI by name, but said, "We have not received a visa application from a former Korean celebrity."
Previously, Hong Kong media reported that VI had purchased a luxury home in Hong Kong after the Burning Sun incident and was planning to open a club there afterwards.
"Currently, Korean nationals can stay in Hong Kong for up to 90 days without a visa," said Mr. Walker, adding, "The application for a work visa for the individual mentioned earlier has also not been granted."
"Relevant government ministries and agencies will implement strong gatekeeping measures when processing applications for work visas to ensure that only those who are qualified will be approved to receive support through established procedures," the ministry said.

He is accused of embezzling funds at the Burning Sun club in Gangnam, Seoul, and arranging prostitution for foreign investors. He is also accused of distributing illegally filmed material.
