”Turn yourself in for me”...Police secure phone records of singer Kim Ho Joong (South Korea)
The police have obtained a record of a phone call between singer Kim Ho Joong (33), who was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving and hit-and-run, and the manager who falsely turned himself in on behalf of Kim Ho Joong.
According to the police on the 29th, the police seized and analyzed the mobile phone of Kim Ho Joong's manager, Mr. A, and discovered that Kim Ho Joong had spoken to Mr. A immediately after the accident.
This was possible because the automatic recording function was activated on Mr. A's mobile phone. The call records show that immediately after the accident, Kim Ho Joong told Mr. A that he had drunk alcohol and caused the accident.
Based on this record, the police are considering changing the charge against Kim Ho Joong to aiding the escape of a criminal, which carries a heavier sentence than the current one.
Prior to this, Woo Jeong-soo, the head of the National Police Agency's National Investigation Agency, expressed confidence in proving the charges, saying at a press conference on the 27th, "(Kim Ho Joong's) confession is not the only evidence."
Chief Woo said, "There is objective evidence, and we have thoroughly examined witnesses," and made it clear that they were not considering investigating lie detectors. It is believed that the reason for his confidence was to secure the phone records.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Kim Ho Joong had called a younger manager at the management office immediately after the accident and asked him to make a false confession on his behalf.
During the pre-arrest hearing (warrant review), the presiding judge asked Kim Ho Joong, "We are all human beings, so should a young manager who is a powerless newbie in the workforce be punished for Kim Ho Joong?"
Before he was arrested, Kim Ho Joong refused to hand over his mobile phone to the police, and when three iPhones were confiscated, he refused to reveal the passwords to the police because they contained his private information.
He later changed his position and said he would provide the password through his lawyer after he was criticized for not cooperating with the investigation.
Kim Ho Joong was driving a car while drunk at around 11:40 pm on the 9th and was involved in a traffic accident in Gangnam, Seoul.
Kim Ho Joong is suspected of causing an accident by colliding with a taxi on the opposite lane on a road in Apgujeong, Nam-gu, and fleeing the scene.
He was arrested on the 24th on suspicion of injury, failure to take measures after an accident under the Road Traffic Act, and aiding and abetting the escape of a criminal.
