Kim Ho-jun was arrested on May 9 last year at around 11:40 pm on the way to Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul when he was driving in the opposite lane of a car.
Kim Ho-jun was on trial for causing an accident in which he rear-ended a taxi and then fleeing the scene. 17 hours after the accident, he turned himself in to the police and admitted to being the driver. He admitted to being drunk during the accident.
He denied the allegations, but after surveillance camera footage revealed that he had been drinking, he admitted to drinking about 10 days after the accident.
However, it was determined that it would be difficult to determine Kim Ho-Jun's exact alcohol intake at the time of the accident, and so he was not charged with drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
He was indicted on charges of being involved in covering up Kim Ho-Jun's drinking accident.
The CEO and head of his former office were sentenced to two years and one year and six months in prison, respectively, while manager A, who falsely turned himself in on Kim HoJun's behalf, was given a one year prison sentence suspended for two years.
Prior to this, the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Appeal Division 5-3 (Chief Judges Kim Ji-seong, Seo Byung-jin, and Kim Yeon-jun) issued a ruling on the aggravated punishment of certain crimes on the 25th of last month.
Kim Ho-Jun, who was tried on charges of violating the law (dangerous driving causing injury), was sentenced to two years and six months in prison, the same as the first trial. Kim Ho-Jun subsequently filed an appeal on the 1st, claiming that he was not satisfied with the sentence.
After the appeal, the company is said to have continued to consider all options with various legal experts, including large law firms. However, after much deliberation, the company decided not to appeal.
