It has been revealed that a doctor in his 20s who resigned from his post in Busan city has defrauded senior doctors of 6 million won (approximately 684,528 yen) in donations, complaining about financial difficulties.
Some of the victims reported to the police. According to Busan University Hospital on the 30th, Dr. B, a fourth-year resident in the rehabilitation medicine department at the hospital who submitted his resignation in February, filed a lawsuit against medical personnel this month.
Through online communities, Mr. B sent messages to senior doctors complaining about financial difficulties and requesting financial support. In the process, he impersonated the specialists, claiming to be a junior in the same department at the same hospital.
Using this method, Mr. B stole 100,000 to 200,000 won (approximately 11,408 to 22,817 yen) from senior doctors, and in many cases 500,000 won.
Each donor received 10,000 won (approximately 57,044 yen), and in just two weeks, they received a total of 6,050,000 won (approximately 692,320 yen).
However, a doctor who was suspicious of Mr. B's message
B's fraudulent activities were revealed when he posted a suspicious post on the community. B said through the community, "I simply lied because I thought that a specialist (senior doctor) would support me if I said that I was a member of the same department.
"I will do my best to recover from the damage and will sincerely participate in the investigation by the investigative authorities," he said. He also said, "I will return about one-third of the money I received in the name of support in order to resolve the situation."
"We will return all donations and any remaining donations," he wrote. He made it clear that he would not use any of the donations he received, and would donate any money for which the sponsor's intentions have not been confirmed to the Korean Medical Association.
