Airport staff steal ”checked baggage”... They reach for designer bags and get ”prison time” = Korea

A staff member who stole passengers' checked baggage at a South Korean airport was sentenced to prison. The Incheon District Court recently sentenced A (43 years old), who was indicted on charges of theft, to one year and six months in prison.
Defendant A is accused of stealing passengers' expensive checked baggage 206 times at Incheon International Airport between November 2021 and October last year.
Defendant A had been working as an employee of a subcontractor of Korea Airlines since 2011, and was tasked with carrying passengers' checked baggage to the cargo hold of the aircraft.
The crime was committed when other staff members were away from their seats. In order to avoid suspicion, Defendant A stole one or two items from each passenger's baggage.
The attack took advantage of the fact that passengers often think, "It might happen," and do not report the incident. The attack also took advantage of the fact that there were no CCTV cameras at the workplace.
It was found that the amount of money and valuables stolen by Defendant A in this manner amounted to approximately 360 million won (approximately 40.88 million yen).
However, after a passenger reported that a 40 million won (approximately 4.54 million yen) Hermes bag was missing, defendant A was arrested by the police.
