A mother in her 30s was arrested by police for abandoning her newborn baby in a garbage dump near her home after giving birth at home. The Gyeonggi Nambu National Police Agency's Women's Safety Division said she was charged with violating the Child Welfare Act (children's rights).
On the 1st, the police announced that they had made emergency arrest of suspect A (31) on suspicion of abduction and are currently investigating the matter. Suspect A was arrested at around 7pm the previous day at Yong Hwa-dong, Chang'an-gu, Suwon-si.
She is suspected of abandoning her baby boy in a paper collection box at a garbage dump. It is said that after giving birth at home that morning, she abandoned the baby in a garbage dump near her home.
The incident was discovered at 7:08 pm on the same day when a resident passing by the garbage dump reported hearing a baby crying coming from the garbage can.
Police were called to the scene and transported the baby, who was found in a black plastic bag, to the hospital.
After analyzing security camera footage from the area, police tracked down suspect A at his home around 9 p.m. that day. Police are investigating suspect A's motive for the crime and the whereabouts of his biological father.
A police official said, "After the investigation, we plan to consider whether to apply for an arrest warrant." Meanwhile, the baby, who was taken to the hospital and is receiving treatment, is in good health.
