South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains ”suspension of North-South military agreement” to Japan, the U.S., China, and Russia
Regarding South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol's approval of the "Plan to suspend the full effectiveness of the September 19 North-South military agreement," which was passed at the Cabinet meeting on the 4th, the South Korean government said, "We will take this measure in order to protect the United States and the United States from the US military and other threats."
"We have explained the legitimate and lawful measures taken by our government to the US, Japan, China and Russia," a South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said on the 4th.
"In particular, South Korea and the United States maintain close communication on all issues related to the Korean Peninsula and maintain strong cooperation on North Korea," he said.
"The government will continue to take all necessary measures to protect the lives and safety of our people," he said.
Meanwhile, the South Korean government has filed a complaint with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) regarding North Korea's GPS jamming attack.
A South Korean Foreign Ministry official said, "We have requested cooperation from international organizations in the past when similar cases have occurred," and added that "we need time to consider specific measures internally."
