A former bodyguard in South Korea was sentenced to prison for assaulting a woman who asked him to move her car, breaking her ribs, but the prosecution appealed the sentence, arguing that it was too low.
On the 5th, the Incheon District Prosecutor's Office's 2nd Litigation Division announced that a former bodyguard who had recently been sentenced to two years in prison for joint assault under the Act on Punishment of Violence, etc.
The prosecution said it had filed an appeal against the first-instance ruling against LUDA defendant A (39). The prosecution said, "The defendant argued with the victim despite her legitimate demands and caused serious injuries.
"The victim is still pleading for severe punishment. The sentence handed down by the first trial was light, and a heavier sentence should be handed down," he added.
"The prosecution has sought a prison sentence of three years and six months for defendant A at the closing hearing held on the 1st of last month.
Defendant A did not appeal until this day, but the prosecution appealed, and the second trial was also held at the Incheon District Court.
The case is scheduled to be heard at the Incheon Supreme Court. Defendant A was indicted on charges of punching and kicking a woman in her 30s, Ms. B, in the parking lot of a shopping mall in an apartment complex in Namdong-gu, Incheon, in May last year, causing injury.
When Ms. B asked to move her car because it was blocked by Defendant A's car, she was assaulted and suffered broken ribs and was diagnosed with a six-week recovery period.
Defendant A was tried on an indictment without detention basis after the arrest warrant was dismissed by the court during police investigation last year, but was sentenced to two years in prison on the 31st of last month.
The wife of Defendant A, who was also at the scene of the crime, was also indicted last year on suspicion of joint assault, but was not investigated by the police while pregnant.
Police have recently confirmed that Defendant A's wife has given birth, and plan to summon him for an investigation in the near future. Defendant A, former bodybuilder LUDA, closed the gymnasium he was running after the incident.
