Japan, US and South Korea seek key joint investment in minerals
Japan, South Korea, and the United States have agreed to explore ways to jointly invest in core mineral sectors and also plan to strengthen cooperation in the development of key emerging technologies.
On the 5th (local time), the four Japan-US-ROK trilateral economic and security dialogue was held in San Diego, USA.
The delegation was headed by Mr. Tarun Chhabra, Senior Advisor for Technology and National Security Affairs to the National Security Council (NSC), and Mr. Yasuo Komura, Cabinet Secretary for National Security Affairs, from the United States and Japan, respectively.
The meeting was attended by the deputy director-general of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the United States, and South Korea. Topics discussed at the meeting included supply chains, core emerging technologies, digital technology, and infrastructure security.
The three countries agreed to explore ways to jointly invest in key mineral fields. In key emerging technology fields, they agreed to expedite the creation of joint research projects and to strengthen technology protection and cooperation between authorities of the three countries, including through information sharing.
In the field of artificial intelligence, the three leaders agreed to continue discussing the establishment of global AI governance that reflects the safety, innovation, and inclusiveness discussed at the AI Seoul Summit last month.
The three countries agreed to hold the fifth round of the Economic and Security Dialogue in the second half of this year.
