Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo said on the 9th, "I hope that (doctors) will negotiate with the government rather than go on strike and not use the lives and health of the people as a shield."
Mayor Hong wrote on Facebook that day, "This must be even more so, as doctors are the greatest intellectuals in Korea."
Mayor Hong said, "When the number of lawyers was increased substantially, the lawyers' associations had no way to resist in order to maintain their privileges. (Doctors) have the means to resist the increase in the number of doctors by using the lives and health of the people as a shield."
He added, "If doctors resist collectively, the damage will directly affect the public. If the person representing the medical association uses abusive language and speaks ill of everyone, and even if he attacks, there is no way to punish him.
This is why it is so bad," he criticized.
