A young man jumps onto a truck going downhill after its brakes are released and stops it (Korea)
It was later reported that a man in his 30s who witnessed the brakes of a parked truck being released and rolling down a slope jumped into his car and applied the brakes to prevent an accident.
According to the Gwangju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the 10th, citizen Lee Hee-seong was taking a break in front of her workplace in Gwangju City at around 2:50 pm on April 10th when
A driverless one-ton truck was seen rolling down a hill, hitting a car parked on the road and continuing down the hill without stopping.
The truck driver ran alongside the vehicle to try to stop it, but the truck was already moving at a considerable speed.
The force was not enough to stop the truck. Upon witnessing this, Lee ran to the truck, opened the driver's door, jumped in, and quickly applied the brakes to stop the vehicle.
Police explained that the road where the accident occurred was in an area densely populated with cram schools, with many cram school vehicles traveling in the surrounding area, and that if the truck had continued down the slope, there was a risk of a secondary accident.
As a result of the investigation, it was determined that the truck driver had parked on a slope and got out without properly applying the handbrake, which caused the accident.
Lee ran in a hurry while wearing slippers and jumped into the car, which resulted in a fractured left ankle and a broken ankle that has not yet fully recovered.
He is said to be still recovering. "My body moved first because I wanted to prevent an accident," Lee said. "I don't think it's a big deal. Anyone who witnessed that situation would behave in the same way."
"I think he would have done something wrong," he said. The police presented Lee with a letter of appreciation.
