仁川国際空港内でテニス…カップルに批判殺到=韓国
Couple receives criticism after playing tennis at Incheon International Airport (South Korea)
A couple has been photographed playing tennis at Incheon International Airport in South Korea, sparking public criticism.
On the 12th, a man and woman were photographed at Incheon International Airport in a post on the Instagram account of "Bome Dream."
A video of people playing tennis in front of an entrance inside the airport was uploaded. In the video, a woman wearing a white hat and a white top is swinging a tennis racket and playing a rally with a man wearing black clothes.
While they were playing tennis, pedestrians were passing by.
Internet users commented, "Please, I hope he's not Korean."
There were a series of critical comments, such as, "What could they be thinking to behave like that?", "With enough people, it's like they're playing baseball," and "What are the airport staff doing instead of stopping them?"
As the debate spreads, criticism is being leveled at the Airport Authority, which is responsible for managing airport facilities, and the police, who are supposed to maintain order at the airport.
According to the Hankyoreh on that day, the Airport Corporation and the police were blaming each other. The Incheon Airport Police Corps said that the Incheon Airport Corporation had the primary responsibility to stop the act.
An airport police official said, "The affected location is a facility within Incheon Airport. The Incheon Airport Corporation operates the airport, and it is their responsibility to stop them from doing so."
"The police have the authority to maintain order. The security personnel employed by the airport corporation are not the airport security personnel," the Incheon Airport Corporation said.
In response, the airport police said, "If the airport authority tried to stop the passenger but he did not comply and called the airport police, we can be dispatched."
"The Airport Authority could not have even found them in the first place," he countered. On the other hand, the couple's actions may be punished. Article 56 of the Airport Facilities Act states that occupying a facility without permission is punishable by law.
However, whether or not a couple's actions constitute "unauthorized possession" often depends on factors such as how long the actions continued.
An airport police official said, "We have not yet confirmed the identity of the couple, but as media coverage of the video continues, we are currently discussing internally how to respond."
