On the 24th, following a telephone conversation, Mr. Nagashi, the U.S. State Department's Special Deputy Representative for North Korea John Park, and Director-General for Asian and Oceanian Affairs Namazu Hiroyuki issued a joint statement.
The three countries' top nuclear envoys stated, "Japan, the United States and South Korea have confirmed that North Korea has repeatedly transferred arms to Russia.
"We condemn in the strongest terms the deepening of military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, including through the transfer of arms," he said. "Such arms transfers will prolong the suffering of the Ukrainian people, violate numerous UN Security Council resolutions, and undermine the security of Northeast Asia and Europe."
"The visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Pyongyang (June 19) will serve as an opportunity to conclude a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty," he said.
The development of the Russian-North Korean partnership, highlighted through the signing of the agreement, will help maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and help the Ukrainian people defend their freedom and independence against Russia's brutal tactics.
"Japan, the United States and South Korea will work together to respond to the North Korean threat to regional and global security and to prevent the situation from deteriorating," North Korea's top nuclear envoy said.
"We reaffirm our intention to further strengthen diplomatic and security cooperation to prevent this from happening again," he said, adding, "The U.S. commitment to the defense of Japan and South Korea is as solid as iron."
