In January to May, the total social logistics volume across China increased 5.9% year-on-year to 135.3 trillion yen (approximately 3,000 trillion yen). Looking at past trends, the cumulative growth rate of logistics demand has continued to recover steadily.
The total social logistics value is roughly in line with the development and recovery of the Chinese economy. Looking at the demand structure, the total logistics value of industrial products in January-May increased by 5.7% year-on-year. Of this, the value of goods related to the manufacture of industrial products increased by 5.7% year-on-year.
The growth rate of total logistics volume reached 6.1%, indicating that manufacturing-related logistics remains an important force supporting the recovery of industrial product logistics.
Looking at the volume of imported goods, the total value of imported goods increased by 5.9% year-on-year, but the rate of increase was slower than in the January-April period.
In addition, the growth rate of logistics demand in the consumer sector accelerated. In particular, the consumption sector saw a surge in demand for logistics services in May due to the consecutive holidays, promotion of e-commerce, and policies to replace consumer goods.
The recovery in logistics demand related to transportation costs was notable.
