韓国、高霊郡を大加耶の文化を象徴する第5の古都に指定
Goryeong County, South Korea, designated as the fifth ancient capital symbolizing Daegaya culture
Goryeong County, North Gyeongsang Province, has been designated as Korea's new historic capital. The area flourished as the political and cultural center of Daegaya throughout history and was the capital of the Korean peninsula for 520 years (42-562 AD).
The island is a historic site that continues to convey the country's prosperity. The National Heritage Administration of Korea announced on the 3rd that it would designate Goryeong County as an ancient capital, following a decision by the Central Council for the Preservation and Development of Ancient Capitals. This decision was made in response to the decline in population.
It is expected that this will bring new vitality to Goryeong-gun, which is currently facing a decline. The term "ancient city" refers to an area that has historical significance, and the "Special Law for the Preservation of Ancient City" came into force in March 2004.
Based on this, Gyeongju, Buyeo, Gongju, and Iksan have been designated so far. The designation of Goryeong-gun marks the first time in 20 years that this has happened, making it the fifth ancient capital city.
Being designated as an ancient capital will bring about many benefits, including improvements to the residential environment and streetscapes, the creation of historical and cultural spaces utilizing historical sites, and the promotion of public relations, education, and experience programs.
A wide range of support will be provided. In addition, the government plans to operate a resident support program that will provide practical assistance to local residents.
Goryeong County was the capital of Daegaya and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Many cultural heritage sites are well preserved, including the Goryeong Jisan-dong Tomb Group, which is registered as a national treasure, Jusanseong Fortress, remains of water transportation, and earthenware kilns. In addition, the legend of the founding of Daegaya and intangible heritage are also preserved.
The Jisan-dong Tomb Group in particular has features that are different from those of Silla in terms of the structure of the tombs and the artifacts excavated.
The gilt bronze crown, found along with armor and helmets, is a precious metal craftwork symbolizing Daegaya and has been designated a national cultural heritage "treasure." The National Heritage Administration has confirmed that these relics are "Daegaya style" and "Goryeong style".
The ceremony, called the "Historic City Ceremony," is considered to have unique value and great significance. The National Heritage Administration plans to amend the "Enforcement Decree of the Ancient Capital Development Act" and complete the designation procedure for Goryeong County.
