Cha was hospitalized with broken ribs, and the first investigation into the suspect took place on the 4th, three days after the accident.
The suspect claims that he made a sudden start, and the passenger also told police that he did not apply the brakes.
The suspect was investigated under the supervision of the police and claimed that the sudden start was due to an abnormality in the vehicle. The police asked the National Forensic Service to examine Cha's car, but the analysis of the EDR (Electrical Discharge Recorder)
It usually takes about two months to determine whether the driver stepped on the accelerator or the brakes. Police are investigating the surrounding security facilities, including the hotel where Cha was staying before the accident.
The police are analyzing camera footage and other sources to understand the circumstances surrounding the accident. Cha's car left the underground parking lot of the Chosun Hotel and drove down a one-way street in the wrong direction, hitting a pedestrian and two cars, a BMW and a Sonata.
It appears that Cha's car accelerated after leaving the hotel. It remains to be determined why Cha's car went the wrong way and hit the sidewalk.
The police say they will conduct additional investigations to clarify the exact cause of the accident.
