A man practicing ”bunker shots” in a park in Korea
A man was spotted practicing "bunker shots" in golf attire in a children's playground, sparking controversy.
On the 6th, the Korean broadcasting station SBS released a video that has recently been circulating in online communities.
The statue shows a man wearing a hat, gloves and golfwear practicing his putt in a sandy playground. The playground is located in Hangang Park in Yeouido, Seoul.
At one playground, a man swung his putter, scattering sand everywhere. The author, who witnessed the man, wrote, "At about 8:30 a.m., he was digging out all the sand from the playground with his putter.
"I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw him practicing his pound shot," he said, adding, "A few days ago, he was hitting actual golf balls on the grass next to a park as people walked by."
He continued, "I don't understand what he would do if he were to bump into someone walking by."
In April of this year, a citizen was caught practicing his swing in front of a banner that prohibited golf practice at a park in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
Criticism arose. In 2016, a man in his 60s was fined 100,000 won by summary judgement after he hit the ball into the Nakdong River in Andong, North Gyeongsang Province.
In response to this, the 21st National Assembly proposed a bill to prevent unauthorized golfing in parks and beaches in 2021.
However, it never made it beyond the gates of the Diet and was automatically scrapped when its term expired.
