タクシーで300キロ、目的地3回変更し、料金払わず逃げた乗客=韓国
A passenger took a 300km taxi ride, changed his destination three times, and ran away without paying the fare (South Korea)
The image of a man who fled a taxi without paying after using the taxi for seven hours has been made public. Taxi driver A revealed on the 8th of this month on JTBC's "Case Leader" that he had been given a fare-free ride by a customer.
On the 3rd of this month, Mr. A picked up a man in his 50s who was on crutches near Namchuncheon Station in Gangwon Province, and then drove him to Hanlim University Sungsim, about 10 minutes away.
After arriving at his destination, the man got back in the taxi and said, "I need to buy something urgently," and "I'm going to Wonji from Chuncheon."
"I'll pay 200,000 won (about 23,000 yen) for the round trip to Wonju." Mr. A then drove for about an hour and arrived in Wonju. However, the man said that he didn't have what he was looking for.
After driving 170km to Seongnam, the man said he didn't have enough money to buy things and asked for 750,000 won in cash.
When A refused, the man asked A again, "Please lend me 50,000 won in addition to the 200,000 won I paid for the taxi earlier."
In response to the man's persistent demands, Ms. A lent him the 50,000 won she had in her wallet, plus the taxi fare, for a total of 250,000 won (approximately 29,000 yen). The man said, "50,000 won, including the taxi fare back to Chuncheon,
"I'll give you back 10,000 won (about 58,000 yen)," he said, got out of the taxi and went into a building. According to A, the man gave out his phone number during the 300-kilometer taxi ride.
He also told the man his home address and that his wife had passed away. He also showed him a stack of about 2 million won (about 230,000 yen) in cash in his bag and asked him to "count the money."
The man reportedly did not suspect any fare evasion. However, the man never returned, and calls to the number he provided went unanswered.
A found out about the back door and finally reported it to the police. A said, "I drove 300 kilometers, seven hours a day, and got scammed. I left Chuncheon with a feeling of emptiness, betrayal, and loss.
"The journey back to my hometown was really tough," he said. "I've been driving a taxi for 30 years and have had people ride without paying, but this is the first time I've ever had to go through something like this. I did my best to help my disabled passenger, but it's really unfortunate and frustrating."
"I hope that no other victims will come forward," he said, adding, "The CCTV in the taxi clearly recorded the perpetrator's face and the content of the conversation, and I will not report it to the police."
I also reported it."
