President Yoon said at the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Public Forum on the Indo-Pacific Partnership held in Washington DC on the same day.
In his keynote speech at the partnership, he said, "The Republic of Korea will firmly join hands with allies and friendly nations, based on the Indo-Pacific Strategy, which incorporates the three major visions of freedom, peace, and prosperity, and the three major principles of cooperation: tolerance, trust, and mutual benefit."
"We will work together to safeguard peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific and Atlantic Oceans," he said. Yoon is the first South Korean president to attend and address a NATO public forum.
President Yoon said, "The war in Ukraine and the cooperation between Russia and North Korea have further strengthened cooperation between the Republic of Korea and NATO. The Republic of Korea is committed to the U.S.-ROK alliance, Japan-U.S.-ROK cooperation, and NATO membership."
"Through close cooperation with the U.S., we will neutralize and cut off the illegal military and economic cooperation between Russia and North Korea," he said.
President Yoon concluded his speech by saying, "The Republic of Korea will act responsibly for a free, peaceful, and prosperous Indo-Pacific."
After the speech, President Yoon had a discussion with Kenneth Weinstein, former president of the Hudson Institute. During the discussion, President Yoon said, "The Ukraine war has been a catalyst for Russia and North Korea to cooperate with each other.
"The cooperation appears to have been expediently formed in response to urgent needs of each party," he said, "After thorough analysis by the allies and friendly nations of the impact that the state of Russia-North Korea cooperation would have on the security of the Republic of Korea and international peace,
We will take appropriate measures to deal with the situation."
