The attacker who stabbed former Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung appeals against the 15-year prison sentence - South Korea
Defendant Kim (67), who was sentenced to 15 years in prison in the first trial for allegedly stabbing Lee Jae-myung, former chairman of the Democratic Party, with a deadly weapon, has appealed, claiming that the sentence was too heavy.
On the 11th and 12th, defendant Kim and his lawyer filed an appeal with the Busan District Court, claiming that the sentence was unjust, dissatisfied with the first-instance verdict.
On the 5th, the 6th Criminal Division of the Busan District Court stated that Kim's crime was "a serious challenge to and an attempt to destroy the electoral system and representative democracy."
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison. During the investigation, Kim compared himself to an independence fighter and insisted that his crimes were purely political.
This has finally changed. He showed an attitude of "I'm sorry to Lee Jae-myung, a natural person." In response to Kim's attitude, the court said, "We will postpone his behavior in court and view it as a sincere reflection.
The prosecution, which had sought a 20-year prison sentence for Kim, also said that the sentence imposed differed from the sentence sought, and that the rejection of the request for an electronic device attachment order against Kim was unjust.
They appealed on the 8th.
