President Yoon returns home after five-day visit to the U.S. - a result of strengthening the U.S.-ROK nuclear alliance
South Korean President Yoon Seok-youl returned home after completing a five-day, two-night visit to the United States. The accomplishments of this visit include the completion of the "integrated expansion control" with the United States and the strengthening of security cooperation with NATO member states.
President Yoon completed his five-day visit to the US from the 8th to the 11th, returning to Korea on the 12th at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.
President Yoon attended the NATO summit held in Washington on the 10th and 11th, and announced plans for a security cooperation agreement between the United States and other NATO member states.
In particular, on the 11th, during a summit with U.S. President Biden, the U.S.-ROK Korean Peninsula Nuclear Deterrence Operation Guidelines were adopted, calling for the establishment of an integrated extended deterrence system.
In the joint statement, the United States committed to allowing its nuclear assets to be assigned to missions on the Korean Peninsula in both wartime and peacetime in order to deter and respond to North Korea's nuclear program.
The two sides agreed to expand the sharing of nuclear-related information and information necessary for conventional nuclear integration (CNI) in the event of a North Korean nuclear crisis. This is seen as strengthening the US-ROK alliance into a nuclear-based alliance.
The South Korean Ministry of National Defense said, "While the existing expansionary constraints were decided and provided by the United States, South Korea will now discuss joint planning and implementation of nuclear and conventional integration with the United States as a partner."
"Our role in the country's nuclear operations has expanded," he explained. President Yoon will visit the US National Cemetery of the Pacific and the Indo-Pacific Command on the 8th and 9th before attending the NATO summit.
The National Cemetery of the Pacific, where the Korean War dead are buried, and the Integrity Command, which is responsible for providing support to the Korean Peninsula in the event of an emergency, are both places that demonstrate the unity of the U.S.-ROK alliance.
This was my first visit to the Inte Headquarters since its establishment in 2018.
