South Korea's Uber launches new service, aiming to attract foreigners and women = South Korea
T-Map Mobility, a subsidiary of the telecommunications giant SK Telecom (SKT), and Uber Technologies, a major U.S. ride-sharing company, have announced that UT, a joint venture between the two companies, will launch a new service called "Uber Black."
The company announced that it would provide a taxi service. In February, the company changed its brand name to "Uber Taxi." UT CEO Song Jin-woo said, "UT is not well known as a brand, so we are not providing a taxi service.
"After discussions with industry insiders, we decided to rebrand the service as 'Uber Taxi.' Our goal is to increase convenience and safety, so that it will be well-received by foreign passengers, as well as people in their 20s and 30s and women," he said.
In order to provide a high-grade riding experience, Uber Black uses luxury vehicles such as luxury sedans and large limousines. All drivers have a long history of no accidents and a high reputation.
The company is made up of private taxi operators with a wide range of value. The company has also added a new technology called "Pick-up Location Designation Service" that recommends taxi pick-up locations to passengers in crowded locations such as airports and event venues.
By 2024, the company aims to secure a membership of taxis by offering passengers fast rides and no call fees, with fares determined before the ride, while providing ongoing training and extensive support to drivers.
In addition, around 2025, the company plans to launch a large-scale marketing campaign in collaboration with social media influencers.
