According to the South Korean presidential office, President Yoon said that immediately after the Czech government announced its selection of the preferred negotiating partner,
"I would like to express my deep gratitude to the entrepreneurs who worked hard with us, those working in the nuclear power industry, and government officials, as well as to the people of Japan who wholeheartedly supported us," he said.
President Yoon also instructed, "With a Team Korea spirit, do your best to reach a final contract."
Since taking office, President Yoon has held a number of formal meetings with the Czech Republic and has been actively promoting Korea's nuclear power plant diplomacy.
During his attendance at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit in 2016, he reportedly held important discussions with Czech President Petr Pavel towards the final order.
The President's Office said, "This is the first such achievement in 15 years since we received an order for the Barakah nuclear power plant from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2009. This is an important step in exporting our nuclear power plants to Europe, the home of nuclear power.
It was a valuable stepping stone."
