People's Power calls 250,000 won support law and yellow envelope law forced through by opposition party ”legislative runaway, tyranny of the majority” - South Korea
On the 4th, the People's Power Party (ruling party) announced that the Democratic Party and other opposition parties had proposed the '250,000 won (approximately 26,945 yen) support law for all Koreans' (Special Measures Law for the Payment of Civil Livelihood Recovery Support Grants) and the 'Yellow Envelope Law' (Labor Union and Labor Policy Law).
On the same day, Choo Kyung-ho, the floor leader of the People's Power, presented two bills on the Fei Book, one each as 'Current Labor Relations Adjustment Act'.
He called the bills the "money-spreading law" and the "illegal strike-encouraging law," and said, "They are bad laws that will destroy our economy. They are a scheme to increase the number of cases in which the president exercises his right to request a second vote and to misuse them to incite impeachment."
The 250,000 Won Support Bill, proposed by the Democratic Party of Korea as the first party-debate bill in the 22nd National Assembly, was passed despite a filibuster by the People Power Party.
The bill passed the National Assembly on the 2nd with the support of the opposition Exclusive Party. The Yellow Envelope Act is expected to be processed in the same way on the 5th.
"It is a law that has been abandoned after the government realized that the stakes are high. The cash handout law is also unconstitutional and a policy with little effect and huge side effects."
He also urged the Democratic Party to "stop irresponsible impeachment politics."
"From the beginning to the end, the huge opposition party's violent acts in the parliament did not stop for even a moment," he said. Chief spokesperson Choi Su-jin said in a commentary, "The People's Power has been defeated by the ruthless huge opposition party.
In response, they continued unlimited debate, but each time it was forcibly ended by the Speaker of the National Assembly, and the opposition's exclusive and forced handling of the issue continued as if it were a procedure. Why didn't they handle it when they were the ruling party in power? Now they are running wild.
"They are trapped in the 'judicial risk' bulletproofing of former Chairman Lee Jae-myung, and are misusing the legislative unilateralism, impeachment, retaliatory special investigation, and national investigation for their own political purposes," he said.
"If this is an underhanded tactic to shift the responsibility to the government and ruling party in order to repeatedly demand a reconsideration, no citizen will be fooled," he said.
He continued, "The actions of the current huge opposition parties are nothing more than the tyranny of the majority, not democracy. We must face reality and not lose it.
"We had no choice but to stand in the plenary session for a long time to counter the Democratic Party's legislative rampage, but we have decided to do our best to look after the people," Cho Ji-yeon, the floor spokesperson, said in a statement on Feibo.
I feel embarrassed and sorry about this. I hope that the 22nd National Assembly will come together as soon as possible to discuss the issues affecting the lives of the people."
