Democratic Party of Korea: ”139 people, including Lee Jae-myung, are being investigated for communications... President Yoon Seok-yeol should clarify his position” (South Korea)
The Democratic Party of Korea claimed that a total of 139 people, including former Chairman Lee Jae-myung and Rep. Choo Mi-ae, were subjected to communications investigations by the prosecution.
Han Min-soo, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Korea, held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Center on the afternoon of the 6th and said, "Of the 139, only active members of the Diet
"There are 19 former National Assembly members, two former National Assembly members, 68 aides, 43 party officials, and seven former aides/party officials. There are some overlapping cases, making the total number of cases 149," he said.
Han said, "Immediately after the communications inspections were announced, we received reports from people who were victims of the inspections over a two-day period starting on the 5th. In just those two days, we received 1,000 reports.
39 people and 149 cases of communication inspection damage were reported. According to the media, not only politicians but also journalists and their acquaintances were subjected to indiscriminate communication inspections, with the number reaching 3,000.
"The Democratic Party of Korea will hold a meeting of the Prosecutor's Committee for Suppression of Dictatorship Politics (an internal party organization) and will decide on a future policy," he said.
"We are planning to prepare countermeasures. We are also planning to have victims of communications inspections visit the prosecutors' office to protest," he said.
"It was a thorough inspection," he said. President Yoon must make his thoughts clear. "The Democratic Party of Korea will hold those responsible accountable to the end."
The prosecution requested a large-scale request for communication materials in January while investigating allegations of interference in the presidential election and manipulation of public opinion.
The person who was the subject of the inquiry received a message on the 2nd, about seven months after the communication inquiry, so the fact was made known belatedly.
The prosecution explained that it was a "legitimate procedure."
They simply conducted a simple telephone subscriber inquiry to confirm the ownership of the phone number that was confirmed to have been spoken to, and those who were deemed to have no connection to the case as a result of the inquiry were excluded from the investigation.
