「BTS」SUGA、血中アルコール濃度0.2%以上の“泥酔状態”だった
”I had one beer” - BTS' SUGA, who was in a ”drunken state” with a blood alcohol content of over 0.2%, could be sentenced to up to 5 years in prison
It has been revealed that Suga, a member of the Korean boy band "BTS," was indicted on charges of drunk driving on an electric scooter and had a blood alcohol content of over 0.2% at the time of the arrest.
On the 9th (today), a Korean media outlet reported that SUGA's blood alcohol content was 0.227% when he was indicted on suspicion of drunk driving.
On the 6th of this month, the police station filed charges against Suga for violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving), and after conducting a breath test, the following numerical results were obtained.
Contrary to previous statements by SUGA's side that he was riding an electric kickboard, confirmation revealed that he was riding an electric scooter.
In particular, the electric scooter that Suga drove is classified as a motorized bicycle, and is subject to criminal punishment under the same standards as drunk driving of a car.
Suga's blood alcohol content of 0.227% is a level at which a sentence is increased. Under current law, when a person is arrested for drunk driving on an electric scooter, the blood alcohol content must be 0.
If the blood alcohol content is 0.08 or higher, the person may be sentenced to between two and five years in prison or a fine of 10 to 20 million won (approximately 1 to 2 million yen).
If the blood alcohol content is between 0.0% and 0.2%, the person will be sentenced to between one and two years in prison and/or a fine of 5 to 10 million won (approximately 500,000 to 1 million yen).
If the alcohol level is 8% or higher, the driver's license will be revoked and the driver will usually be barred from re-obtaining the license for one year. Suga also stated that he "drank one beer and drove a little."
According to the police, the administrative punishment for Suga's license revocation has not yet been finalized, and they will be investigating the extent of the damage caused by drunk driving, the driving distance, the circumstances, and whether or not he has a criminal record.
Meanwhile, Suga's management office, BIG HIT MUSIC, said in regards to the use of the term "electric scooter" as an "electric kickboard," "We are trying to downsize the issue as some have said.
It was not my intention to do anything to harm anyone. I would like to apologize again for not being able to think more carefully and for my hasty statement. Once the classification of this product by the investigative authorities is decided,
and will faithfully fulfill its responsibilities accordingly."
