The police have reported that they have decided to extend the detention period for Kim Ho-Jun, who is suspected of violating laws related to dangerous driving resulting in injury and fleeing the scene resulting in injury, failing to take action after an accident under the Road Traffic Act, and aiding and abetting the escape of a criminal.
Kim Ho-Jun was arrested and indicted on June 18. Under the Criminal Procedure Act, the initial detention period for a defendant handed over to trial is two months, which can be renewed twice for two-month periods for each trial level.
The detention period can be extended for up to six months. The court decided to extend Kim Ho-Jun's detention period until October.
The detention period for entertainment company CEO Lee Kwang-deok and his head, surnamed Jung, was also extended. Kim Ho-jun was arrested in May after driving a car while drunk on a road in Sinsa-dong, Seoul.
While driving, he crashed into a taxi driver coming from the opposite lane, then fled the scene, and is accused of having his manager turn himself in on his behalf.
In response to suspicions of ordering Kim Ho-Jun to turn himself in, Mr. Jeong is also accused of removing the memory card from the dashcam of Kim Ho-Jun's vehicle and destroying evidence.
Meanwhile, Kim Ho-Jun is scheduled to reveal whether he will admit to the prosecution's charges at the second trial on the 10th.
