South Korean President Yoon meets former President Lee Myung-bak for dinner to discuss national politics and the future of nuclear power
On the 12th, South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol invited former President Lee Myung-bak to the presidential residence for an in-depth dialogue on the future of the nation.
As the first official meeting between the two governments, the lively discussions went beyond what had been scheduled. President Yoon highlighted the commonalities between the two administrations as hot topics, focusing in particular on the latest developments in the National Assembly and the progress of nuclear power generation.
The dinner with President Yoon and his wife and President Lee and his wife was held at the Presidential Residence from 6:30 p.m. for about three hours, with Chief of Staff Jeong Jin-seok and his wife in attendance.
President Yoon and his wife greeted President Lee and his wife when they arrived at the residence to attend the dinner, and President Yoon asked, "President, how are you?" President Lee replied, "I'm glad to meet you."
How much effort is there?” President Yoon began his first hot topic by talking about the weather in Hawaii when he visited the Indo-Pacific Command during his visit to NATO in July.
President Yoon also pointed out the similarities between the two administrations, saying, "President Lee won a record 13 gold medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics during his term in office.
"I'm proud of the Korean athletes who achieved such great results at the Paris Olympics," he said.
"The older generation needs to think more and make more efforts to reduce the burden that the younger generation will have to bear in the future," he added.
President Yoon also visited Mohammed bin Zayed of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in May.
President Yoon also mentioned President Al Nahyan's visit. President Mohammed responded by saying, "The reason why the relationship between Korea and the UAE is so good is because former President Lee Myung-bak built the foundation."
President Maduro shared an episode that resonated with him. In December 2009, President Lee was at a disadvantage when the UAE received an order to build the Barakah nuclear power plant, as it had no export experience.
He also said that he had been concerned about the crisis that had been plaguing relations between South Korea and the UAE under the previous administration, and had been watching the process of the Yoon administration overcoming that crisis.
President Lee went on to praise the 24 trillion won order for the Czech nuclear power plant, saying, "This time (the Yoon administration's) order for the Czech nuclear power plant is a wonderful achievement."
President Yoon said, "President Lee's acceptance of the order for the construction of the Barakah nuclear power plant in the UAE was the foundation for this.
"We achieved success by being selected as the preferred negotiating party for the Czech nuclear power plant construction project," he said, emphasizing the restoration of the collapsed nuclear power ecosystem.
President Lee also commented on the recent political situation. President Lee said, "The extreme ruling and opposition party structure in the National Assembly is
"The power of the people of the ruling party is the same as that of the opposition party," he said, "In order to re-establish power, it is most important that the party and the government become one and unite."
President Lee also reiterated his view that the only way to overcome the 2008 global financial crisis was to enter into a $30 billion currency swap with the United States, Japan and China.
He also introduced the idea of coexistence between large and small companies. President Yoon said, "President Lee's detailed explanation was very helpful. I look forward to discussing this issue again in the next opportunity."
I would like to set up a meeting and hear more details."
