South Korean disease control authorities have predicted that the spread of COVID-19 infections may peak later this month when the summer vacation ends.
Hong Jeong-il, director of the infectious disease policy bureau at the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said in a radio interview on the 13th,
With the summer holidays coming to an end, there will be a "change in behavior" as people gather together again, which could affect the spread of infection," he said, adding, "We will strengthen our response team."
Hong also explained, "A major cause of the recent COVID-19 outbreak is that people are now spending time in enclosed spaces due to air conditioning."
For this reason, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to expand the COVID-19 task force that has been operating so far and control the epidemic while monitoring the progress of patients.
In preparation for a sudden increase in cases, the government will purchase additional treatment drugs within this month, but will continue to administer vaccinations as scheduled from October.
