People's Power leader Han Dong-hoon says opposition party's failure to attend celebration ceremony ”too inappropriate” - South Korea
Han Dong-hoon, leader of the ruling People's Power Party, attended the 79th anniversary of Gwangbok-chol celebrations hosted by the government on the 15th, along with National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik and the Democratic Party of Korea.
Regarding the fact that no opposition parties participated, he said, "I am very disappointed." After attending the celebration ceremony held at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul on the same day, Han told reporters, "
"I understand that there are different opinions regarding personnel matters, but Liberation Day is a political event worthy of celebration for all citizens," he said.
Prior to this, the Democratic Party of Korea appointed Kim Hee-soo as director of the Independence Hall of Korea, where the pro-Japanese New Right issue was raised.
In order to criticize the appointment of Kim Hyung-seok, he did not attend the celebration, but instead took part in other commemorations organized by the Gwangbok Association and others.
Chairman Woo, a former member of the Democratic Party, also did not attend the celebration, and was staying at the Seoul National University Hospital.
He visited Hyeonchunwon (National Cemetery) and paid his respects. Han continued, "If you have different opinions, you can come here and talk, but you don't participate, and it seems like the country is divided like this.
Han also criticized the Democratic Party lawmaker Jung Hyun-hee for blaming Kim Gun-hee, the prosecution's husband, at the Legislation and Judiciary Committee impeachment hearing the previous day.
He criticized the use of the term "murderer" to describe someone as "not common sense." He added, "No matter how much of a politician you are, there are not many people who would sympathize with such a statement.
Regarding this matter, necessary measures will be taken within the party."
