Jung Hyun-hee, a lawmaker from the Democratic Party, who accused President Yoon Seok-yeol's wife, Kim Gun-hee, of being a "murderer," has been charged by the police.
On the 15th, the People's Welfare Committee, a civic group, announced that it had filed a complaint against all the lawmakers with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on charges of human rights violations, abuse of power, and insults.
The People's Committee said that the remarks made by Jeon at the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee's 'Prosecutor Impeachment' hearing were "low-level remarks that ignored the discussions at the hearing and are a serious crime."
At a hearing of the Legislation and Judiciary Committee the day before, Rep. Chun asserted that there was a connection between the deaths of the Human Rights Committee executives and the end of the Kim family's designer bag gift case, saying, "Mrs. Kim Kun-hee is the murderer," and "Mrs. Kim Kun-hee is the murderer."
"Mrs. Hee, President Yoon Seok-yeol killed the director," he said, sparking controversy. In the complaint, the People's Committee said, "(Jeon) is a former chairman of the Human Rights Committee and should respect human rights more than anyone else.
Meanwhile, Seoul City Councilman Lee Jung-bae of the People Power Party also accused all the council members of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act on the 16th.
He teased that he would file a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the suspicions.
