In a commentary released on the same day, Democratic Party floor spokesman Roh Jeong-myung said, "By broadcasting 'Kimigayo' at midnight on Liberation Day, KBS has offered a 'tribute' to the pro-Japanese government that mocks the martyrs who died for our country."
"The Yoon Seok-yeol government's blatant pro-Japanese actions have even destroyed public broadcasting," he pointed out. In fact, KBS aired the opera "Madame Butterfly" at midnight on the same day.
"KBS may try to justify itself by saying that it was just an opera production of 'Madame Butterfly,' but we believe that it is a symbol of Liberation Day, the spirit of independence, and the Republic of Korea and its people," said Roh.
"It's a graphic mockery," he said. "The Yoon Seok-yeol government has boldly declared that it will continue to go its own way, even in the face of public anger over its pro-Japanese, treasonous actions."
He continued, "Singing the national anthem on Liberation Day is nothing but an offering to the pro-Japanese government."
"There is no shortage of confirmation of NA," he said, asserting, "This is also a mockery of the people and a declaration of war against the people."
