The government announced on the 18th that it will begin inspections and crackdowns around 6,300 elementary schools nationwide ahead of the start of the second semester.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Affairs, the Food and Drug Administration, the National Police Agency and other related agencies will jointly inspect areas around elementary schools nationwide.
The government plans to check for dangers in five areas, including harmful environments, food safety, product safety and illegal advertisements. Since 2013, the government has been inspecting areas around elementary schools every year before the new school term begins.
In March of this year, a total of 110,000 cases were cracked down on and improved, including 80,000 cases of illegal parking, 20,000 cases of illegal advertising, 4,825 cases of harmful environments for young people, and 3,262 cases of food deficiencies.
Representative measures include the installation of safety fences and administrative sanctions against tainted food. An official from the Ministry of Education said, "We will focus on inspecting construction sites and school zones around schools to create safe routes to school."
"We also plan to promote the 'Stop for a moment and let the children go first' campaign to ensure the safe commute of children to school," he said.
"We will work with relevant agencies to create a safe educational environment," he said.
