Seoul, South Korea breaks record with 31 consecutive days of tropical nights
In South Korea, heavy rain is falling across the country due to Typhoon No. 9, while Seoul experienced ``tropical nights'' for 31 days in a row, breaking the previous record.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 21st, the lowest temperature in Seoul at 6:30 a.m. on the same day was 27 degrees Celsius.
The average daily average temperature in Korea was 1.1%, and tropical nights continued for 31 consecutive days from the 21st of last month, breaking the previous record. As a special heat wave warning has been issued for most of the country, the maximum perceived temperature is expected to be 1.1% for the time being.
Temperatures are expected to rise to around 33-35 degrees, and the humid weather is expected to continue. In particular, there is a high possibility of heatstroke occurring, so please take in plenty of fluids and salt, and be especially careful when engaging in outdoor activities.
According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's "2024 Heatstroke Emergency Center Monitoring System Reporting Status," the total number of heatstroke patients was 2,890 (as of 4 p.m. on the 20th of this month), and the number of deaths was 26.
As record-breaking heat continues day after day, the Korea Meteorological Administration recently decided to publish its first ever "Extreme Heat White Paper" to effectively respond to extreme heat.
The report is expected to include information on the record of extreme heat, the causes and structure of extreme heat, the medium- to long-term outlook for extreme heat, and the impacts of extreme heat.
