サムスンメディスンがフランスのスタートアップを買収、米国でのシェアトップを狙う=韓国
Samsung Medicine acquires French startup, aims to take top market share in the U.S. (Korea)
Medical device manufacturer Samsung Medicine acquired French artificial intelligence (AI) development startup Sonio on August 30. The acquisition price was 131.5 billion won (approximately 14,067.4 billion yen).
Sonio was founded in 2020. It specializes in ultrasound diagnostic software used in obstetrics and gynecology, as well as IT solutions and AI that allow patients to easily check and manage their diagnostic history.
The company is developing a diagnostic assistance function using AI, and believes that Sonio's technology will be useful in upgrading its own AI solutions.
Sonio also owns a network in the US market and plans to become a Samsung subsidiary in the US in the future.
It is expected that this will also contribute to Disun's market expansion. In August, Sonia received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to sell its AI solution for obstetrics and gynecology.
Samsung Medicine has the largest market share in Korea, China, Southeast Asia, and other regions, but is only second in the United States.
The company's share of the market is 7%, which is a large gap with General Electric (GE), which is in the lead. An industry source said, "Samsung Medicine is acquiring companies whose technological capabilities have been recognized by the FDA, and is therefore able to develop software.
"It appears that they want to quickly strengthen their competitiveness in the clothing field."
