”How to avoid being an active duty soldier”...Former idol sued for falsifying medical records = Korea
A former member of an idol group in his 30s is on trial for falsifying medical records and downgrading his military physical examination grade from active duty soldier to community service officer.
The Changwon District Prosecutor's Office has indicted former idol group member A on charges of violating the Military Service Act without detention.
Defendant A's mother, Defendant B (in her 50s), who conspired with Defendant A in the crime, and hospital nurse Defendant C (in her 60s) were also put on trial on suspicion of violating the Military Service Act and forgery of a private document.
The three are accused of falsifying medical records and lowering the results of their military physical examinations from grade 1 to grade 4. Those with physical grades 1 to 3 on the military service assessment are active duty soldiers, while those with grade 4 are those who are performing public service as supplementary military service.
Defendant A was given a Grade 4 rating based on a false diagnosis of lumbar hernia, and fulfilled his military service obligation as a community service officer.
The crimes of the three were revealed during the investigation into the insurance fraud allegations of Defendants B and C.
The prosecution said the call records included messages to the effect that "Is there any way to avoid becoming an active duty soldier?" The case was initially investigated by the police, but was not referred to prosecution due to a lack of evidence.
The prosecutors who took over the case analyzed the case records, such as the call records, and determined that there was a suspicion and requested the police to reinvestigate.
I was medically evaluated twice and it was confirmed that Defendant A had no illness. During the investigation, it was also revealed that Defendant C, a nurse, was complicit.
It was confirmed that the hospital's medical records, which can only be created by doctors, were accessed. Defendant C was put on trial for connecting to the hospital's network and falsifying medical records.
A prosecutor said, "We will continue to cooperate organically with the police and do our best to ensure that the criminal justice system functions for the benefit of the community and the safety of citizens."
A Military Manpower Administration official said, "If the trial proves that he has violated the Military Service Act, his existing military service punishment will be revoked and he will have to undergo a new military service assessment test and serve again depending on the results.
"We must do this," he explained.
