Japan, US and South Korea to ”conduct second training of 'Freedom Edge' soon”
The three countries, Japan, the United States and South Korea, have agreed to conduct the multi-domain trilateral exercise "Freedom Edge," which was first conducted in June this year, again in the near future.
On the 10th, the South Korean Ministry of National Defense held the Japan-US-ROK Security Conference at the Ministry of National Defense Building in Seoul.
The meeting was attended by Cho Chang-rae, director of the defense policy office at the South Korean Ministry of National Defense, Kara Abercrombie, deputy undersecretary for policy at the U.S. Department of Defense, and Taro Yamato, defense policy director.
The three representatives attended the meeting as their respective chief representatives. At the meeting, the representatives of the three countries stated that the Freedom Edge exercise, which was held in the waters south of Jeju, South Korea from June 27 to 29 this year, had reached the third round of training.
They highly appreciated the exercise's contribution to strengthening interoperability among the three countries and to freedom, peace and protection of the Indo-Pacific region, including the Korean Peninsula, and agreed to conduct a second training exercise later this year.
The June training included anti-submarine warfare training, maritime missile defense training, air defense training, aerial training, search and rescue training, maritime interdiction training, and cyber defense training.
The next Japan-US-ROK Security Consultation is scheduled to be held in Japan in the first half of next year.
