Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Kyu-hong: ”Requesting investigation into 43 cases of blacklisted doctors...Investigation also ongoing for updates” = South Korea
In South Korea, the Ministry of Health and Welfare has filed a lawsuit against an investigative agency over an archive website that maliciously published the names of doctors currently working in the country and updated it with language mocking the police.
On the 18th, it was revealed that additional related information had been provided. Minister of Health and Welfare Cho Kyu-hong said at a briefing on the same day, "We will update the doctor blacklist of a specific site on the 14th.
"The government is aware of the seriousness of the issue, including the blacklisting of doctors.
"As a result, we have requested an investigation into 43 cases in which lists of working physicians and professors have been distributed or publicly slandered within the medical community."
He continued, "It is my understanding that investigative authorities have identified suspects through their investigations and have taken measures such as referring a total of 32 people to the prosecutor's office."
As collective action continues in the medical community since the mass exodus of medical residents in February this year, there has been no end to malicious publication of lists of working doctors.
The channels for disclosure have shifted to internet communities, Telegram chat rooms, archive sites, etc., and the information has been made available to a wide range of people, from medical residents to full-time doctors (fellows), medical school professors, civil servants, and journalists.
The scope of the restrictions has expanded to include, but was not limited to, emergency rooms, and more recently, with the mid-autumn celebration (Chuseok) holiday approaching, the crisis in emergency rooms has been highlighted, and a list of doctors working there has also been made public.
Despite public criticism and police investigation, the archive site "Thankful Doctors' List," which published the list of emergency room doctors, deleted the list of emergency room doctors on the 14th and made other changes to its contents.
He also re-posted an updated list and mocked the police, telling them to "stop being nonsense."
