Ruling party lawmakers accuse South Korea's Football Association of systematic cover-up for not complying with National Assembly requests for documents
As the National Assembly prepares to investigate the selection process for the head coach of the Korean national football team, it has been pointed out that the Korea Football Association is refusing to submit documents, using various excuses.
Jin Jeong-oh, a gold medalist in pick shooting and a member of the ruling People Power Party, criticized the move as an "organized cover-up of information."
On the 19th, Rep. Qin posted on Facebook, "The Football Association is taking a holiday until Friday (20th) using the anniversary as an excuse, and the opening ceremony will be held on the 24th.
"They have not even responded to requests for documents in response to questions from the National Diet's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee," he said, claiming that "the Football Association has begun an organized cover-up."
He continued, "Chung Mong-kyu, Chairman of the Football Association, and Hong Myung Bo, National Team Leader,
"Is it really normal for them to remain silent and demonstrate such irresponsible behavior when key stakeholders, such as the team manager, are scheduled to appear before the Diet as witnesses?" he said.
"The Football Association, which is being asked to investigate the truth and take responsibility, and those who deceive the public, will surely pay the price," Rep. Hata warned.
The Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee is scheduled to hold a questioning session on the 24th regarding the allegations that have emerged in the process of selecting the national team coach of the Football Association.
The witnesses selected for the hearing include Lim Saeng, the director of technical affairs, Jung Hye Seong, the former head of the training committee, and Park Joo Ho, a former training committee member.
Rep. Hata, who runs the National Information Center as part of his investigation into corruption in the sports world, previously reported on Hong's selection.
The association announced that it was reviewing documents based on internal information related to the appointment. Meanwhile, on the 18th, the head of a sports agency made allegations about the FA's manager selection process.
The CEO of JP Sports Group said that Herve Renard, who was named as the manager of the South Korean national team, "agreed to all the demands, but the association
"The appointment of Coach Hong was decided before Coach Renard had a fair chance, as if it was a pre-planned scenario. The association's non-transparent administrative procedures in this regard are unacceptable.
It was always a disappointment."
