「懲役40年でも足りない」…検察、妊娠中の元妻を殺害した40代男を控訴=韓国
”40 years in prison is not enough” - Prosecutors appeal against 40-year-old man who murdered his pregnant former wife - South Korea
The prosecution has appealed against the first-instance ruling that sentenced a man in his 40s to 40 years in prison for brutally murdering his pregnant former wife. The Jeonju District Prosecutor's Office has indicted him on charges of murder and attempted murder.
On the 4th, the prosecution announced that it had filed an appeal against the first-instance ruling that sentenced Defendant A (43) to 40 years in prison, citing injustice as the sentence.
"We believe that a heavier sentence should be imposed, and have filed an appeal," the court said. On March 28, defendant A stabbed his former wife, Ms. B, multiple times with a weapon at a beauty salon in Hyoja-dong, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si.
He was indicted on charges of murder and theft. Defendant A also brandished the weapon and injured Ms. B's boyfriend, who tried to stop the crime. At the time of the incident, Ms. B was seven months pregnant.
Police and fire officials confirmed the deceased was pregnant and dramatically rescued the fetus via Caesarean section.
However, the newborn baby followed its mother to heaven just 19 days after birth due to a decline in its health.
The prosecution had sought a life sentence, criticizing Defendant A, who claimed to be mentally impaired, as having the heart of a beast and calling for a human face. However, the first trial court found that there was no risk of the defendant reoffending to be in its favor.
He was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
