In the video, Director Kim said, "The story goes that couples are formed even during temple stays," and "Women are now in a situation where they should serve in the military.
"Of course, the rooms are separate, but the boys and girls live together like they do in a university dormitory," he said. "When that happens, it's natural for the boys and girls to fall in love and get into a relationship.
"Pul will be born, friendships will be formed that people can share for life, and this will lead to more marriages and more children."
However, in response to this statement, Rep. Park Seong-won of the Democratic Party of Korea said, "The military is a path to childbirth.
It is a very inappropriate remark that I consider to be a disgrace to the country, and I demand an apology from the Minister of Defense who appointed Kim.
"I made the remarks to that effect," he said, adding, "If they were inappropriate, I apologize."
