More than 20 residents of Granberry Village have reported health issues due to the unbearable noise from a nearby bitcoin mining site.
In a lawsuit filed in Hood County Court on the 4th of last month, the residents said, "The noise from the Marathon mine is extremely irritating and causes an ILAI complaint."
"The construction of the plant causes sensory, emotional, psychological and health harm to residents living in the vicinity due to the constant noise and vibrations."
Some residents claim to be experiencing fatigue, headaches, memory loss, hearing loss, migraines and tinnitus.
In some cases, existing health problems, such as high blood pressure, have worsened, they said. Residents also alleged that the mine's energy use has increased their electricity bills and caused property values to fall.
Rodrigo Cantu of Earthjustice, a nonprofit environmental law organization,
"Our clients are concerned that the marathon will cause noise pollution," senior lawyer Cantú said in a statement on October 7.
"We want the company to take immediate steps to effectively reduce noise pollution or cease operations," the lawsuit said. Residents have filed suit in court arguing that the Marathon facility creates unreasonable noise and is not intended to cause harm to residents.
They are seeking a permanent injunction preventing the importation or disposal of the materials, as well as fair compensation and costs of litigation.

It was built by e North Holdings in April 2022 and is located next to a gas-fired power plant called Wolf Hollow II.
The mine has changed hands several times, with Marathon acquiring the lease in January of this year.
Hut 8 Corp operated the facility until April 30.
