Amid the controversy over the infringement of educational authority, the number one career choice for junior and senior high school students has been "teacher" for the ninth consecutive year. Unlike elementary school students, who lost the top spot to "athlete" in 2018, six years ago, the number one choice for junior and senior high school students has been "teacher."

According to a survey of elementary, middle, and high school students' desired careers for the past nine years (2015-2023), the number one career that elementary school students want to be in 2023 is athlete.
In junior high school, teachers came in first, followed by doctors (second), athletes (third), police officers (fourth), and developers (fifth).
Among high school students, the top choice was teacher, followed by nurse (2nd), life scientist (3rd), developer (4th), and doctor (5th).
Despite the “medical school boom,” the ranking of doctors dropped to second place among elementary and middle school students and fifth place among high school students. As students get older, more and more of them are changing their career choices in order to consider the possibility of being accepted into medical school.
This is interpreted as being due to the fact that, while athlete has maintained the top position in the desired occupation of elementary school students since 2018, in the survey of junior and senior high school students, "teacher" has maintained the top position for nine years.
The Ministry of Education conducts a survey on the current state of career guidance education every year, targeting approximately 30,000 students, parents, and teachers from approximately 1,200 elementary, junior high, and high schools nationwide.
