The National Police Agency will implement a "Drunk Driving Prevention Device Mandatory System" to prevent recidivism of drunk driving from this month. On the 13th, the Metropolitan Police Department announced that the "Drunk Driving Prevention Device Mandatory System" will be implemented from the 25th.
The high repeat offense rate is a problem in the case of drunk driving. Among drivers who have caused traffic accidents while drunk driving in the past five years, 43.3% have a history of being arrested for drunk driving.
The mandatory drunk driving prevention device system applies to those who have had their license revoked for drunk driving more than twice within five years and are trying to get a license again.
A conditional drunk driving license is issued so that the driver can only drive vehicles equipped with a drunk driving prevention device. The driver is asked to breathe into a drunk driving prevention device installed in the vehicle to measure the alcohol concentration.
If the vehicle detects a level of alcohol above a certain threshold, it will not start. The drunk driving prevention device must be installed for the same period as the driver's license revocation period, and the installation period begins the day after the driver's license revocation period ends.
The period of time for which the driver's license is revoked under Drunk Driving is between 2 and 5 years. If the revocation period is 2 years, the period for which the device is installed is 2 years, and if the revocation period is 3 years, the period for which the device is installed is 3 years.

The system is currently being implemented in major foreign countries, including Canada and Europe, and has proven effective.
