President Yoon said in his closing remarks at the Cabinet meeting held at the Presidential Office in Seoul on the same day that he would take strict measures against the government's decision to impose sanctions on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Lee Ju-ho.
Presidential Spokesperson Jeong Hye-jung quoted President Yoon as saying, "The ASEAN region, including the Philippines and Singapore, is now a major player in the Indo-Pacific region.
"The geopolitical and strategic value of ASEAN has been brought into the spotlight anew. Developed countries around the world are showing interest in ASEAN, and many of their leaders are visiting for dialogue," he said.
He continued, "The income levels of the countries in the ASEAN region are rising and their markets are getting bigger. From the perspective of ASEAN, Korea has a large market, is close by, and has a similar sentiment, so we consider it an important partner.
President Yoon also asked his State Councilors to "consider each country in the ASEAN region as a partner country, and to work out various ways to cooperate with them."
Communication and exchange will be educational and will also bring many new opportunities," he added.
