While Ukrainian media has reported that "Russia will form a battalion of about 3,000 North Korean soldiers," the British BBC has reported that "Russia will build a military base in the Far East with North Korean soldiers."

The North Korean government denied the report. Ukrainian media outlets reported that six North Korean soldiers were killed in Ukrainian artillery fire on the Donetsk front earlier this month.
